    Why This Recipe Works

    With its luscious texture and delicious flavor, this recipe offers a healthier twist on a classic favorite, giving you all the satisfaction without any animal products. 5 minutes is all you need! It’s perfect for a quick and refreshing treat on a hot summer day. And it’s a huge hit with kids. 

    Frozen bananas are the secret to creating a thick and creamy base for the vegan milkshake, bringing a natural sweetness and smooth texture that rivals any dairy-based shake. I love that it’s a healthier option that doesn’t compromise on taste. 

    The vegan vanilla ice cream adds some nice sweetness and creaminess that we all crave in a milkshake. Plus, it adds the classic vanilla flavor to this recipe, which is even intensified by natural vanilla extract.

    And because chocolate and vanilla are such a great combination, I also added cocoa powder. Vegan whipped cream and vegan chocolate sauce bring this shake to the next level! 

    With just a few simple ingredients and a blender, you can whip it up in no time. I love that the recipe is super versatile and allows you to easily customize it. So feel free to add your favorite toppings or mix in some extra goodies.

    Ingredients & Substitutions

    • Frozen Bananas – cut the bananas into slices and freeze them overnight. 
    • Cocoa Powder – unsweetened. Leave it out for a vanilla version. 
    • Almond Milk – you could also use oat, coconut or soy milk. 
    • Maple Syrup – agave would also work (or leave it out completely). 
    • Vegan Vanilla Ice Cream – use your favorite brand. 

    How To Make This Recipe

    1. Step: Place all ingredients into a high speed blender.

    2. Step: Process until smooth. Serve immediately. 

    Recipe Notes

    • Make sure to use ripe bananas. They should have a few brown spots on the outside. 
    • I recommend using a high speed blender for this shake. I usually use my Vitamix. 
    • This milkshake is great on its one, but it’s even better with vegan whipped cream and vegan chocolate sauce drizzled on top.

    Variations

    The recipe for this vegan milkshake is super versatile. Here are some ideas for possible variations: 

    • Berry– add a few frozen raspberries or strawberries and leave out the cocoa powder
    • Cookie – add two Oreos or vegan chocolate chip cookies and sprinkle some cookie crumbles on top of the milkshake
    • Peanut Butter – add half a cup of peanut butter
    • Mango – add one cup of frozen mango and leave out the cocoa powder
    • Different Toppings: vegan sprinkles, vegan marshmallows, or dark chocolate chips

    Storing 

    This plant-based milk shake is best served immediately after blending. It will keep in the fridge for about 2-3 days, but it won’t be the same. 

    Freezing

    You can freeze it for up t0 2 months. Let it defrost in the fridge for at least an hour before serving it.

    Ingredients

    For the milkshake:

    • 4 frozen bananas (cut into slices)
    • 1 cup vegan vanilla ice cream
    • 2 teaspoons cocoa powder
    • 2 cups almond milk
    • 1 teaspoon maple syrup
