Why This Recipe Works
This banana milk is one of our favorite summer drinks. It’s a creamy and refreshing drink that will leave you wanting more. It’s the perfect drink to cool off on hot summer days and the recipe comes together in just 5 minutes.
Plus, it’s a fantastic option for vegans, those with dairy allergies, or anyone who is looking for a healthy drink. It’s quick and easy to make, requiring just a few ingredients and a blender.
So what makes this recipe work so well? Let’s break it down. First, we have the star ingredient: ripe bananas. They bring natural sweetness, a creamy texture, and a subtle hint of banana flavor to the milk. The bananas also add a nutritional boost, packed with vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber.
Almond milk provides a smooth and creamy base for the banana milk. Natural vanilla extract adds a nice vanilla taste that goes perfectly with the banana flavor.
And let’s not forget about the crushed ice! It adds a refreshing element to the drink, making it the perfect companion for those hot summer days or whenever you need a cool pick-me-up treat.
The recipe is super budget-friendly and only calls for ingredients you most likely have at home anyways making it perfect for those sudden cravings.
So grab your ripe bananas and get ready to blend up a delightful treat. Whether it’s for breakfast, as an afternoon snack, or a guilt-free dessert, this recipe is a real winner and also a big hit with kids!
- Bananas – make sure to use ripe bananas. They should have a few brown spots. The riper the banana is the sweeter it is.
- Almond milk – I usually use unsweetened almond milk. Soy or oat milk also works well.
- Crushed Ice – you could also use ice cubes.
- Vanilla Extract – I used organic natural vanilla extract.
How to Make This Recipe
1. Step: Place all of the ingredients in a blender.
2. Step: Blend until smooth.
Recipes Notes
- You could also add more spices if you want. Cinnamon and nutmeg also work really well.
- If you want your drink to be sweeter, you could add a couple of dates, but I personally think that the bananas are sweet enough on their own.
- Are you allergic to nuts? Then just use oat milk instead of almond milk.
- For an even healthier smoothie, add two teaspoons of chia seeds and flax seeds.
Storing
The banana milk will separate and change its color rather quickly. So I recommend drinking it soon after making it.
If you have to store for later, it will last in the fridge for about 2 days. It won’t be as good as fresh, but it will still be okay. Just make sure to shake it well before drinking it.
Freezing
Again, it’s best when served fresh. But you can freeze it for up to 8 weeks. Let it thaw in the fridge before serving it.
Variations
- Chocolate – add two teaspoons of cocoa powder. If you want you could also add a bit of sea salt.
- Cinnamon – add one teaspoon of cinnamon. I recommend Ceylon cinnamon.
- Strawberry – banana and strawberries is such a great combination! Add 1 cup of frozen strawberries.
- Peanut Butter – add two tablespoons of unsweetened peanut butter.
