Healthy popsicles are the best refreshment on hot summer days! And in contrast to store-bought popsicles, these homemade popsicles are completely sugar-free and contain lots of vitamins and nutrients. And the best thing is you need only 10 minutes to make them!

Healthy Popsicles with Kiwi & Pineapple

Wow! Summer has finally arrived!! We had more than 95 degrees in the last couple of days, which is totally unusual for us in May. So it’s definitely time for some delicious vegan treats that will cool you down this summer. One of my favorites are these healthy popsicles with kiwi and pineapple. The recipe for these vegan popsicles is super easy. You basically make a green smoothie and then just fill it into popsicles molds and freeze it. It couldn’t get much easier and healthier, right?!

Healthy Popsicles with Kiwi & Pineapple

All you need is bananas, peaches, some spinach, pineapple, and kiwi. As always, you can find the full recipe in a separate, printable recipe box below the text section. For extra sweetness I also added some dates. And for an extra boost of vitamins and nutrients, I used one tablespoon of chlorella. This also explains the dark green color of these green popsicles and why they’re so healthy!

Healthy popsicles with chlorella powder  – What is chlorella?

Maybe some of you have heard of spirulina. I think it’s a bit more popular than chlorella. But what is chlorella and spirulina? And what is chlorella made from? Both, chlorella and spirulina, are blue-green algae that are known as superfoods. Chlorella’s green color comes from its super high concentration of chlorophyll. It’s actually the plant with the highest concentration of chlorophyll, which makes it an awesome all-natural supplement to boost your energy.

Besides it’s packed with a large amount of nutrients and essential vitamins such as vitamin a, vitamin b2, iron, and zinc. It also helps the human body to detox heavy metals such as lead and mercury. So how does chlorella taste like? When I first tried chlorella, I was surprised that it didn’t have a very strong taste. I tastes a bit sweet and kind of like grass. Or like I imagine grass to taste. Haha! So definitely not bad at all. I love using chlorella powder for my daily green smoothies. And it’s also great for these healthy popsicles with no added sugar! I used chlorella powder from Beta Reu-Rella for these popsicles.

    How to make homemade popsicles

I’ve always been a huge fan of homemade popsicles. I loved making them with my mom when I was a little kid and I tried so many different flavors. We mostly used yogurt and fruit juice, but over time I got a lot more creative. Nowadays, I usually make popsicles with real fruit.

Healthy Popsicles with Kiwi & Pineapple

You can basically use any liquid you like. Yogurt, fruit, fruit juice – they all work great! If you want to make adult popsicles, you can even add a little bit of alcohol. I love making piña colada popsicles for example.

Just fill the liquid you’re using into the popsicle molds, add a popsicle stick, and freeze them for about 12 hours. To get the homemade popsicles out of the mold, just put the popsicles molds under hot running water for a few seconds. This will make it a lot easier to get them out.

Healthy Popsicles with Kiwi & Pineapple

I hope you like these healthy popsicles with pineapple and kiwi as much as we do around here! If you’re looking for more healthy popsicle recipes, you might like these green smoothie popsicles with raspberries and chia seeds. I posted them on the blog last summer. Or check out my recipe for sorbet with champagne for a fancy refreshing summer dessert.

Have a great and sunny week, everyone! Sina

    Ingredients

    For the healthy popsicles:

    • 2 bananas
    • 2 handful spinach
    • 1 cup pineapple
    • 1 teaspoon chlorella
    • 3 dates
    • 1 kiwi
    • 2 peaches
    • 1 1/2 cups water

    Additional ingredients:

    • 1 kiwi

    Instructions

    • Put all ingredients into a food processor or blender and blend until smooth.
    • Cut the kiwi into very thin slices and put them on the inside of the popsicles molds. They will only stick if the slices are really thin.

I’m so jealous that you’re actually getting summer weather. It’s been cool and mostly rainy in Chicago all May. I can’t wait for the weather to heat up so I can make these gorgeous popsicles.

We love homemade popsicles at my house and make them all the time in the summer! I’ll have to try them with the chlorella. The whole kiwi slices in these pops are beautiful!
