These tropical green smoothie popsicles are the perfect treat for hot summer days. They are sweet, healthy, and packed with nutrients. Even kids love them!

    Green Smoothie Popsicles

As it’s still pretty hot here, we had green smoothie popsicles today instead of our daily green smoothie. Now that the worst part of my final exams is over, I will finally stop complaining about the heat and actually enjoy the rest of the summer. I heard on the news that this is the hottest July since the weather record began, so I guess it’s definitely ice cream time! I’ve always loved to make popsicles. It’s easy, cheap, and sooo convenient. As a child, I often used yogurt or juice to make homemade popsicles, but the green smoothie popsicles were even better.

    Green Smoothie Popsicles

For the top, I used frozen raspberries, red currants, and chia seeds, which I put in a food processor together with some water. The rest of the popsicle is made of a tropical green smoothie with spinach, banana, pineapple, kiwi, orange, and passion fruit. I also added some more chia seeds, flax seeds, and sesame seeds, so the green smoothie popsicles are filled with tons of essential nutrients! I added only two dates and for me the popsicles were sweet enough, but if you want to have it sweeter just add more dried dates or figs. With the recipe below you can make about 12 popsicles and you still got some green smoothie left to drink.

    Course: Dessert
    Cuisine: American
    Prep Time: 15 mins
    Total Time: 15 mins
    Servings: 12 popsicles
    Author: Sina

    Ingredients

For the green red smoothie layer:

    • 1 cup frozen raspberries and red currants I used them in a equal amount, but of course that's totally up to you
    • 1/4 cup water
    • 1 tablespoon chia seeds

    For the green smoothie layer:

    • 1 banana, peeled
    • 1 apple, peeled and roughly chopped
    • 1 orange, peeled
    • 1 kiwi, peeled
    • 1/4 pineapple, peeled and roughly chopped
    • 2-3 hand full fresh spinach
    • 2 dried dates or figs
    • 1 passion fruit
    • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
    • 1 tablespoon flax seeds
    • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
    • 3/4 cup water

    Instructions

    • First make the red smoothie layer: Put the frozen raspberries and red currants together with the water and the chia seeds in a food processor and blend until smooth.
    • Fill the mixture into the popsicle molds and put them in the freezer for a couple of minutes while making the green smoothie. Make sure to put them in an upright position.
    • For the green smoothie, place all ingredients in a food processor and blend until smooth. Fill the smoothie into the popsicle molds and put them in the freezer for at least 2-3 hours depending on your freezer.

Hey July, I know that this is none of your latest posts but… You can enjoy popsicles EVERY summer :D
They look beautiful and I’m about buying some molds – where did you get yours? Are they BPA-free or made from silicone?!
Greets from the Canary Islands and thanks sooo much for your inspiration :)

These popsicles are so naturally bright and beautiful thanks to all that fruit, but I LOVE the way you photographed them too!!! The background of fruit is just perfect! You are a popsicle photographing pro I’d say :) And I love the variety of fruits and veggies in here, a perfect healthy snack!

Haha! Thanks so much, Natalie! Yeah, I just didn’t know how to photograph them at first. I started with crushed ice underneath, but it just didn’t look right. Luckily my boyfriend came up with the “fruit idea”, which I just loved. And of course there were all the yummy berries we could eat once we were done. :-)

Thanks, Jenn! :-) I totally agree with you. It feels so good to eat healthy and sweet things at the same time, although chocolate is of course also great once in a while! ;-)
