    Vegan Onion Rings

You are going to love these vegan onion rings! They are incredibly easy to make, crispy, and delicious. Plus, they are oven-baked, which makes them so much healthier than fried onion rings!

I’ve always loved onion rings. Maybe not as a kid, but later on in life I’ve started to really like onion rings as a crispy and savory snack. However,  fried onion rings are not exactly healthy, so I just had to make a healthier vegan version of onion rings. And these vegan onion rings are seriously to die for!

What Do I Need For These Vegan Onion Rings?

    • two sweet onions
    • all-purpose flour
    • unsweetened almond milk
    • garlic powder
    • smoked paprika powder
    • nutritional yeast
    • panko bread crumbs
    • salt

As always, you can find the full ingredient list and the detailed recipe instructions in a separate recipe box at the end of this post.

How To Make Vegan Onion Rings

    1. STEP: Combine the all-purpose flour, garlic powder, smoked paprika powder, nutritional yeast, salt, and unsweetened almond milk in a bowl and stir well.

    2. STEP: Peel the onions and cut them into about 1/4 inch rings. Carefully separate the rings from each other.

    3. STEP: Fill a bowl with panko flakes. Coat each onion ring in the flour spice mixture. Then coat it in the panko flakes afterwards.

    4. STEP: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place the onion rings on top. Preheat the oven to 350 °F and bake them for 20 minutes. Flip them after 10 minutes.

    5. STEP: Serve immediately with ketchup or dip of choice.

Vegan Onion Rings – Recipe Notes:

    • It’s important to use panko bread crumbs for this recipe. Panko bread crumbs are traditionally used in Asian-style dishes to provide a crispy coating. I don’t recommend replacing the panko bread crumbs with regular bread crumbs as the vegan onion rings will be much crispier with panko bread crumbs.
    • If you have an air fryer, you could also make these vegan onion rings in your air fryer. I’ve tried it with my cauliflower wings a few weeks ago and it worked pretty well. So just follow the recipe and instead of an oven use an air fryer. Make sure to watch them closely, so they don’t get too dark.
    • I like to eat my onion rings with ketchup (try homemade low carb ketchup for a healthier version), but they are also great with vegan mayonnaise or vegan sour cream.

    Can You Reheat Onion Rings?

I think that crunchy foods like onion rings are best served fresh out of the oven. However, if you have any leftovers and want to reheat them, it’s possible. But I’m not the biggest fan of reheating onion rings.

If you have leftover onion rings and want to reheat them, follow these three easy steps:

    1. Preheat the oven to 350 °F.
    2. Line a baking sheet with aluminium foil and place the onion rings on top.
    3. Bake them for 3-5 minutes until they’re crunchy again. Make sure they don’t get too dark.

Can You Freeze Vegan Onion Rings?

Yes, freezing onion rings definitely works. Bake them first and then let them cool down completely. Then place them in a freezer bag or store them in an airtight container in the freezer. They last up to 3 months.

When you want to eat them, let them thaw in the fridge for a few hours. Then simply follow the reheating instructions above.
