Vegan Apple Crisp

If you're looking for a delicious recipe to celebrate fall, look no further than this vegan apple crisp. With tangy Granny Smith apples and a crispy oat topping, it's a comforting treat to cozy up to on chilly days.

Ingredients

For the Filling:

  • 4 Granny Smith apples
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons vegan butter, melted
  • 1 pinch salt

For the Topping:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar or coconut sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup vegan butter
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350 °F. Thinly slice the apples. 
  • Place them in a large bowl and add cinnamon, maple syrup, lemon juice, melted vegan butter, and a pinch of salt. Stir until all apple slices are covered.
  • Transfer the apple slices in a large baking dish.
  • Place all ingredients for the crumbles in a bowl. 
  • Use your hands to knead the ingredients into crumbles. 
  • Evenly divide over the apples. 
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes until the crumbles are nicely browned. 
  • Serve with a scoop of vegan vanilla ice cream.   

Notes

  • If you like, you could sprinkle the sliced apples with 1 teaspoon of apple pie spice mixture. 
  • For a nutty version, add 3 tablespoons of ground almonds to the crumbles before kneading them with your hands. 
  • Are you looking for an even more decadent dessert? Then add a scoop of vanilla ice cream and vegan caramel sauce on top.
