Vegan Onion Rings
You are going to love these vegan onion rings! They are incredibly easy to make, crispy, and delicious. Plus, they are oven baked, which makes them so much healthier than fried onion rings!
Servings 4 servings
- 2 sweet onions
- 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 2/3 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika powder
- 1 tablespoon nutritional yeast
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup panko bread crumbs
Combine the all-purpose flour, garlic powder, smoked paprika powder, nutritional yeast, salt, and unsweetened almond milk in a bowl and stir well.
Peel the onions and cut them into about 1/4 inch rings. Carefully separate the rings from each other.
Fill a bowl with panko flakes. Coat each onion ring in the flour spice mixture. Then coat it in the panko flakes afterwards.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place the onion rings on top. Preheat the oven to 350 °F and bake them for 20 minutes. Flip them after 10 minutes.
Serve immediately with ketchup or dip of choice.
- It's important to use panko bread crumbs for this recipe. Panko bread crumbs are traditionally used in Asian-style dishes to provide a crispy coating. I don't recommend replacing the panko bread crumbs with regular bread crumbs as the vegan onion rings will be much crispier with panko bread crumbs.
- If you have an air fryer, you could also make these vegan onion rings in your air fryer. I've tried it with my cauliflower wings a few weeks ago and it worked pretty well. So just follow the recipe and instead of an oven use an air fryer. Make sure to watch them closely, so they don't get too dark.
- I like to eat my onion rings with ketchup (try homemade low carb ketchup for a healthier version), but they are also great with vegan mayonnaise or vegan sour cream.
